| Assembling the
Multi-roll Adapter (MRA) |
 |
| The
multi-roll adapter has been designed to allow as many as 4 independent rolls of film to be
threaded into a Think & Tinker, Ltd. laminator at the same time. This is
especially useful when adding an adhesive backing to flex circuitry or a sealing layer to
a membrane keyboard. The multiple arrays of holes located in the side and back
panels will allow you to mount a host of possible accessories. The rated capacity of
200 lbs. (actually closer to 400 lbs., if the truth be known) should accommodate just
about anything you might consider mounting. What ever your application, the many
degrees of freedom offered by the MRA will extend the capabilities of your laminator.

Locate the bottom plate of the
Multi-Roll Adapter (MRA) and remove the 4 screws. Gather up the two black side panels of
the MRA. Turn them upside down and slide the bottom plate into the bottom channel on each
side. Move the plate to the two rear-most holes and re-insert the screws. The arrow on the
bottom of the plate should be pointing to the back of the MRA (the big slots in each side
panel faces front) For now, do not tighten the screws. |
| This is a good time to mount
the 4 rubber feet to the side panels. These are screwed into the threaded holes on the
bottom of each side panel. Only tighten the internal screws enough to cause a slight bulge
at the base of each foot. |

Turn the assembly right side
up. Locate the back panel and remove the 6 socket head screws. Mount the back
panel to one side panel with the model number label facing forward and in the bottom
right-hand corner when the MRA is viewed from the front. Note:
The back panel for the Series 3000 MRA (for 25" wide laminators) must be installed
with an 1/8" spacer on each side.
These spacers are needed to compensate for a change in the frame width of the Model 3000
laminators. |
| Locate the polished idler
bar with a DelrinÒ
dowel pin sticking out of each end. Slide one of the DelrinÒ washers onto each pin and mount the assembly
into the first hole in each side panel as shown. This idler can be mounted in other
locations in the MRA if you find it necessary to move it. Secure the other side of
the back panel to the side panel and tighten all 6 socket head screws. This will
serve to lock the idler in place while allowing adequate freedom of movement to insure
that it spins freely. |

| With the idler located in this
position, it will be accessible to a roll loaded in any one of the 4 possible
elevations. Needless to say, the idler can be positioned in any one of the 30 or so
holes provided for that purpose. Multiple idlers can also be installed if you need
to accommodate a more complex threading path. |

Turn the MRA over and tighten
the screws securing the bottom plate. Once all of the screws are tight, flip the unit
upright with the front facing forward. Mount the shaft (mandrel) hanger to the left
side panel. If this is already mounted, move on to the next step. |
| Referring to your laminator
manual, install the tensioning clutch into the right side panel, opposite the mandrel
hanger near the front. The leather washer should be installed with the smooth face against
the MRA side panel. |

For the time
being, only tighten the knurled knob enough to hold the assembly in place. Generally
speaking, you will always operate your laminator with the tensioning clutch set to the
minimum resistance needed to insure that the film feeds into the lamination rollers
without wrinkles.
Set the MRA in position (the location that you
plan to use it). |

Mount your laminator on top of the MRA and
thread your films as shown in the laminator manual and MRA threading guide (label on the
bottom plate) Your multi-roll
capable lamination engine is ready for use. |
