Installation Instructions

Profile

Although it is not required, we would appreciate it if you would fill out the user profile form before downloading the current incarnation of the Green CirKit Reference Stack (GCRS). Registration will put your name on a confidential in-house mailing list that will automatically notify you whenever the Stack is updated (if we ever figure out how to do bulk mailing with Eudora). It will also give us some idea if all of this effort is really worthwhile.

The download file is compressed using the latest version of PKZIP® with the directory structure preserved (recursed). Please print this page and follow the instructions to install on your system..

Select a hard drive with at least 5.5 Mbytes of free space.

Download the appropriate GCRS "zip" file into the root directory.

Using the file compression/decompression utility of your choice, UNZIP the file.

Note: You may have to instruct the utility to recursively install the extracted files starting at the "../greenckt"/ subdirectory to insure that the original directory structure is faithfully reconstructed. The PKUNZIP command line needs the "-d" flag to recurse directories.

Of course, if you breakdown and buy WINZIP, this is all much easier.

Run Netscape (Gold V3.0+) or Internet Explorer (V3.0+).

From the File menu, select Open (or Open File in Browser).

From the "../greenckt/" subdirectory select index.htm. After the homepage loads, add it to your list of bookmarks (Bookmarks/Add Bookmark).

Navigate through the stack using the link icons as you would through any website.

Some of the links require that you be on-line. As mentioned in numerous locations, these are ALWAYS marked with a "world in the Web" icon.

If you have any trouble at all installing the GCRS, please let us know IN DETAIL so that we can correct the problem. Life is hard enough as it is, WITHOUT having to fool around with code that doesn't work.
