| The heart of the DKS
UV1218 consists of a bank of high-efficiency parabolic reflectors and
a 17° (relative to normal) collimation grid. The reflector bank captures light emitted
from the back surface of the tubes (energy that would otherwise be lost)
and redirects it through the collimation grid. The grid extinguishes
virtually all "high-angle" (>17°) light that would smear
out fine details in printed citcuit, rubber stamp, and lithographic
artwork (other fluorescent-light based
systems pass light at angles up to 85°). Working together these simple optical elements multiply the
efficiency and fidelity of the UV1218 imaging system.
